TALKING ABOUT 2024. STATE OF THE ART. ART COLLECTING.
The art system and its boundaries. Collection, patronage, and the desire to inspire others to create and appreciate art. And once again, a vital role is played by critics, educators, and those who know how to interpret contemporary art beyond the ephemeral market values, and the more nuanced judgments that characterize those accustomed to placing artistic action within a social, civic, and democratic context. It is around these themes that Vincenzo Trione, one of Italy’s leading art critics, and Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, a prominent collector and patron of art, hosted an exceptional evening at the Rimadesio showroom in Milan.
A rainbow of topics to explore the contradictions and most brilliant achievements of contemporary art. Trione’s lessons to his students are the counterpart to his militant critique in newspapers and the institutions for which he acts as a consultant, while Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo goes beyond the limits of collecting for its own sake in order to recover a ‘social enjoyment’ of contemporary art, which is often difficult to understand and explain, yet so deeply embedded in the vital arteries of our society, in terms of consciousness, protest, and revelation.
